Parliamentary Assembly rejects "first come, first served" system for bananas and takes a stance on rum, sugar and WTO exemption for Cotonou Agreement

Brussels, 17/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - The ACP-EU Parliamentary Assembly last week adopted four resolutions on specific economic problems:

1)  the reform of the banana import system: the ACP-EU Assembly rejects the "first come, first served" system, proposed by the European Commission and reaffirms that the automatic move, in 2006, to a tariff system only would mean the end of Community banana production, as well as for that of many ACP States. It condemns the American trade sanctions...
