Commission pursues infringement procedures against Portugal and Spain for non-compliance with directive on quality of drinking water

Brussels, 26/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has decided to rekindle proceedings against Portugal and Spain who persist in not fully respecting the European directive relating to the quality of water intended for human consumption (Council Directive 80/778/EEC).

Portugal will be referred to the Court of Justice (third stage of the infringement procedure, under Article 226 of the Treaty) as the legislation adopted for implementing the directive in the Azores is incomplete and...
