Thanks to EU financing, Danube will be navigable next spring, clearing of bed and banks will take place in summer 2001

Brussels, 26/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission adopted the decision implementing the Council's decision of principal concerning the EU contribution to the "International Fund for the Clearance of the Fairway of the Danube." The EU will cover 85% of the projects costs, of EUR 22 million at the most (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.15), the credit transfer operation towards the cited fund (created by the "Danube Commission" and located in Vienna") will follow quickly.
