Commission announces objections over Vega/Viag merger that leads to a duopoly on German electricity market

Brussels, 14/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission, on Friday, sent a statement of objection to the German conglomerates Veba and Viag, through which it signalled that it would oppose the merger between the to groups if there where no new disinvestment commitments. The Veba/Viag merger would risk, in his opinion creating a duopoly on the German electricity market with regard to the number two RWE/VEW.
