Commission initiates infringement procedures against all Member States except Finland, for non-compliance with legislation on total elimination of PCB

Brussels, 14/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - Of the fifteen Member States of the Union, only Finland fully complies with its obligations under the Community directive 96/59/EC concerning the gradual elimination of PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) and PCTs (polychlorinated terphenyls), hazardous chemical substances due to their toxicity, persistence and tendency to bio-accumulate (accumulate in living tissue).
