French fishermen's appeal against European regulation banning driftnets for tuna fishing is inadmissible

Luxembourg, 23/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Court of First Instance considers the appeal by the shipowners and fishermen of Ile d'Yeu (western France) - which called for cancellation of the EU regulation banning the use of driftnets over 2.5 km long for white tuna as of 1 January 2002 - is inadmissible. The French shipowners do not fulfil one of the essential conditions for either individuals or companies to be able to call for cancellation of the Community regulation, namely: that...
