Verheugen and Cem define priorities and programmes for Turkey's pre-accession to the Union

Brussels, 01/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Commissioner with responsibility for enlargement, Günter Verheugen, and Turkey's Foreign Minister Ismail Cem had a "very constructive and open" meeting, to use the Commissioner's words, on Tuesday in Brussels. They discussed implementation of the Helsinki Summit Conclusions, in particular, the practical consequences of Turkey's being granted official applicant country status.
