Brussels, 05/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - The environmental impact of the oil slick caused by the sinking, on 12 December, of the Maltese oil tanker Erika off the French coast is of interest to the European Union's Member States as a whole. The latter have galvanised their efforts to back France in its efforts at cleaning the damaged zones, as has the relevant European Commission "task force", within the limits of its powers.
