01/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – “If shipping flows do not return to normal, continued rapid depletion of global oil inventories ahead of peak summer oil demand in the Northern Hemisphere would present increasing risks for fuel security”, warned the heads of the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Friday 29 May. They met on Thursday as part of the high-level coordination group, created in April, to optimise the response to the consequences of the war in the Middle East. They also expressed their concerns about rising fertiliser and energy prices, particularly in the most vulnerable countries, and said they were “tracking and analysing measures taken by governments”.
