01/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – The European Union Prize for Literature has named Dora Kaprálová (Czech Republic) winner of the 2026 edition for her work ‘Mariborská hypnóza’ (‘Maribor Hypnosis’), the European Commission announced on Monday 1 June. Two special mentions were also awarded to Hélène Frédérick (France) for ‘Lézardes’ (‘Rivers of White’) and to Vladimir Vujović (Montenegro) for ‘Slobodni udarci’ (‘Free Kicks’). The European Union Prize for Literature aims to shine a spotlight on emerging European literary talent and to promote the circulation of European literature across borders. The Grand Prix and the special mentions were awarded by an international jury made up of seven literary experts from different sectors of the publishing industry. The Grand Prix awards €10 000 and includes financial support for two translations; the two special mentions each carry €5,000 and financial support for one translation. (CG)
