21/04/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 21 April, the European Commission published the implementing regulation opening up the management of EU tariff quotas for products originating in Mercosur countries. This measure is part of the interim agreement between the EU and the South American market (iTA), the signature and provisional application of which were approved by the EU Council on 9 January (see EUROPE 13834/8). Under the agreement, customs duties on imports from Mercosur will be progressively reduced or eliminated from the first day it comes into force. Details of the tariff elimination schedule are set out in Annex 2-A to the agreement. The regulation will come into force on 22 April and will apply from 1 May 2026.
