MEPs vote for stronger and more inclusive European innovation and technology ecosystems

25/02/2026 (Agence Europe)On Wednesday 25 February, the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) approved the draft resolution on future legislation for the European Research Area (ERA) by 57 votes to 11, with 16 abstentions. MEPs are calling for measures to strengthen participation of the private sector in the EU’s research and innovation ecosystem, through closer coordination and public-private partnerships. They hope to remedy the persistent investment gaps and fragmentation of the market. They are calling on Member States to undertake reforms to remove barriers to the free circulation of researchers and knowledge, and to enhance cross-border collaboration and innovation in order to make Europe an inclusive and attractive global research community.
