25/02/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 25 February, MEPs on the European Parliament’s Committees on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) and Women’s Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) approved (77 votes in favour, 12 against and 12 abstentions) the provisional political agreement reached in December with the Council of the EU on the revision of the 2012 Directive on the rights of victims. The text, put forward by Javier Zarzalejos (EPP, Spanish) and Lucia Yar (Renew Europe, Slovakian), provides for the generalisation of the 116 006 helpline throughout the EU, easier access to reporting offences, particularly for vulnerable people or those deprived of their liberty, and a strengthening of the individualised assessment of needs. It retains the explicit reference to sexual and reproductive health services. The text still has to be formally adopted by the two institutions. The text of the agreement: https://aeur.eu/f/kx7 (NP)
