22/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 22 January, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) announced that, at its request, the judge in charge of preliminary investigations at the Tempio Pausania court in Rome (Italy) had ordered the seizure of €94,000 as part of an investigation into alleged fraud involving European and national funds. Two people are suspected of fraudulently obtaining public funding for a business project in Sardinia, which was never implemented. The funding, 50% of which came from European subsidies and national SME support instruments, totalled €170,000 and was earmarked for the construction of a kiosk on the beach at Cardellino, on the Sardinian island of La Maddalena. The suspects allegedly used a fictitious registration in the name of a third party, as well as falsified documents. The Guardia di Finanza (Italian Financial Guard) seized assets to ensure potential recovery of the loss. (NP)
