Fight against cross-border crime - Eurojust’s annual operational results demonstrate central role of EU agency

Over the past year, the EU Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation, Eurojust, has played a leading role in the fight against cross-border crime within the European Union, as demonstrated by its operational results published on Thursday 22 January.

Faced with increasingly organised and international crime, Member State prosecutors called on the agency in almost 13,946 cases, involving 84,647 suspects and 3.1 million victims.

The scale of the problem is also borne out by the €32.2 billion worth of damage recorded in the cases handled, 2,702 of which were linked to organised crime groups.

In response, Eurojust provided 1,833 rapid responses to requests for judicial cooperation and organised 656 specific coordination meetings.

The use of European instruments for judicial cooperation has therefore proved decisive.

In 2025, Eurojust supported 457 cases based on the European Arrest Warrant, 2,750 cases involving European Investigation Orders, 412 joint investigation teams and 1,526 requests for mutual legal assistance.

As a result of these efforts, the national authorities have arrested or handed over 4,443 suspects and seized or frozen €1.2 billion in criminal assets. The operations also resulted in the seizure of drugs worth an estimated €31.4 billion, including over 353 tonnes of cocaine and 163 tonnes of cannabis.
