08/12/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 8 December, the EU Council extended for one year the EU’s autonomous restrictive measures related to human rights violations, obstruction of the electoral process and sustaining the armed conflict, instability and insecurity in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). These sanctions, which target 31 individuals and two entities, will remain in force until 12 December 2026 and complement the 53 listings already in place at the UN, notably against those responsible for violence linked to illicitly exploiting and trading in natural resources. The persons sanctioned are subject to an asset freeze, and EU citizens and companies are prohibited from making funds available to them. They are also banned from entering EU territory.
