17/11/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 18 November, experts from the Member States will be invited to give their initial solidarity commitments on migration at a high-level Solidarity Forum designed to prepare the EU Council’s decision on the subject (see EUROPE 13750/13). On the basis of a restricted document, the Commission has proposed a breakdown of national contributions to achieve the objectives of the ‘Pact on Migration and Asylum’, namely the relocation of 30,000 people to the EU and/or aid of €600 million per year. The EU Council is due to approve an implementing decision in December. Member States can opt to receive asylum seekers, provide financial or material assistance, or not return asylum seekers who have arrived on their soil to the relevant countries. If all else fails, the Commission could return to the EU27 with binding aid proposals. (SP)
