European Commission suspects Google of restricting visibility of media in search results

On Thursday 13 November, the European Commission announced that it had opened proceedings against Google on suspicion of “demoting news media and other publishers' websites and content in Google search results”.

Specifically, the Commission is referring to suspicions about the operation of Google’s “site reputation abuse policy”. There is evidence to suggest that news media, websites and content from other publishers are demoted in Google search results when they include content...
