30/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 30 October, the European Commission proposed to mobilise €8.5 million from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund for displaced workers (EGF) to help 5,800 employees made redundant following the bankruptcy of battery manufacturer Northvolt in Sweden, according to a press release. Faced with major production difficulties and a global oversupply of batteries, Northvolt went bankrupt in March 2025. Sweden requested assistance from the EGF in June 2025. The measures financed by the EGF aim to facilitate the professional reintegration of these workers and to adapt their skills through actions such as career guidance, counselling, training and upskilling, including support for redundant employees in setting up their own business.
