The Chairman of the European Parliament delegation to the EuroNest Parliamentary Assembly, Sergey Lagodinky (Greens/EFA, German), said on Thursday 30 October that the 12th plenary session of EuroNest, from 28 to 30 October in Yerevan, was sending out a “strong signal” that “the Eastern Partnership is back on the European geopolitical map”.
During its meeting, the Assembly discussed the strengthening of political dialogue, security and stability in the Eastern Partnership region, support for ongoing reforms and the need for enhanced cooperation in the fields of energy, trade and connectivity in order to strengthen resilience in the face of external pressures.
EuroNest members urged the EU to speed up EU accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, welcomed the substantial deepening of relations between the EU and Armenia, and expressed deep concern about the accelerating democratic backsliding in Georgia.
The Assembly passed a number of resolutions on the future of the Eastern Partnership and on cooperation between the EU and the countries of the region, on energy, on research and on the accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova.
