On Thursday, 30 October—in the context of the Support Conference for Peace and Prosperity in the Great Lakes Region held in Paris—the European Commission released another €9 million in funding earmarked to meet humanitarian needs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This funding comes on top of the €120 million in aid previously granted to the Great Lakes region in 2025.
At the end of the day, French President Emmanuel Macron indicated that the international community present in Paris had mobilised, in total, more than €1.5 billion in aid on Thursday.
Mr Macron also announced that the airport in Goma would soon be reopening for humanitarian flights and that secure corridors had been created to facilitate the delivery of aid. (Original version in French by Bernard Denuit)
