European Commission expected to propose tariff quotas with out-of-quota duty of 50% for steel

On Tuesday 7 October, the European Commission will propose a new trade measure to protect European industry from low-cost steel imports from China and elsewhere. This is expected to take the form of a regulation similar to the safeguard currently in force until June 2026, but with permanent effect. According to a draft regulation dated Thursday 2 October and obtained by Agence Europe, the Commission wants to align its out-of-quota tariff with that of US President, Donald Trump, i.e....
