06/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – The Federation of European Publishers (FEP) and 29 other cultural organisations are urging the Council of the European Union to reverse the proposed cuts to the Creative Europe programme in 2026 (https://aeur.eu/f/ish ). In a letter (https://aeur.eu/f/isg ) sent on Wednesday 1 October to the Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, and to the European Ministers for Finance and Culture, they call for the cancellation of cuts of €27.56 million in commitment appropriations and €9.86 million in payment appropriations. The signatories point out that, despite a budget representing only 0.2% of the EU budget (€2.44 billion over seven years), each euro invested in the programme would generate €11 of GDP. According to the preliminary conclusions of the mid-term evaluation of the programme, current funding can only meet a small proportion of the projects submitted. Therefore more resources, particularly in the next Multiannual Financial Framework, are being called for. (NP)
