06/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – The NGO Canopée-sauvons les forêts [Canopée-save the forests] will embark on a tour in a converted bus from 9 to 15 October, from the Landes to Brussels, in order to meet with forest managers and professionals, citizen groups and researchers to advocate for stronger enforcement of European legislation governing forest management, including the Nature Restoration Regulation, the 2030 Forest Strategy and the Deforestation Regulation. The latter was due to come into force at the end of 2025, but the European Commission announced on Tuesday 23 September that it might propose a further one-year postponement, following a computer glitch (see EUROPE 13715/5). “To go back on it is to give in to private interests and sacrifice the world’s forests”, according to Canopée. With this tour, the NGO wants to show that other models of forest management are possible. The bus will end its tour in front of the European Parliament. (FS)
