02/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European water network Water Europe published a new position paper on the Multiannual Financial Framework 2028-2034 on Wednesday 1 October, calling on the EU to mobilise €255 billion in the ‘EU economic, territorial, social, rural, and maritime sustainable prosperity and security fund’ to meet drinking water and sanitation needs. Generally speaking, the various instruments of the National and Regional Partnership Plans 2028-2034 should be “fully mobilised”. Water Europe is also applying for more than €35 billion from the European Competitiveness Fund to establish water-efficient industrial supply chains. Priority should be given to dual-use plants and sectors that consume a lot of water. The Competitiveness Fund is seen as a “tangible envelope” for water-related investments, complementing Horizon Europe and Innovation Fund priorities. See the position paper: https://aeur.eu/f/iqh (FS)
