On Wednesday 1 October, the Climate Action Network Europe (CAN Europe), a network of climate NGOs, sent a letter to the European Commission calling on the EU to clarify both its contribution to international climate financing and its commitment to vulnerable countries in the run-up to COP30 in Belém, Brazil, in November. In particular, CAN Europe is urging Member States to announce before the conference how they plan to increase their contributions between now and 2030 in order to meet the collective target of $300 billion by 2035. In the letter, the organisation advocates additional public funding, more support for adaptation and loss and damage, and a gradual phase-out of fossil fuel subsidies.
