08/07/25 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 8 July, the European Parliament approved the gradual roll out of the Entry-Exit System (EES) at the EU’s external borders from October, by 572 votes to 42 with 67 abstentions (see EUROPE 13653/31). This gradual introduction will take place over a period of 180 days before the system becomes fully operational. The system will record data such as the name, type of travel document, time and place of entry and exit, as well as biometric data such as facial images and fingerprints of third-country nationals entering and leaving the EU. According to the agreed timetable, 10% of crossings must be recorded in the system by the 30th day at the latest and 35% by the 90th day at the latest.
