08/07/25 (Agence Europe) – “Europe must urgently establish global electric car leadership to sustain economic value”, said the think-tank Transport & Environment in a report on Tuesday 8 July. This would create new jobs in the automotive value chain and in related sectors such as batteries and recharging. T&E called on the EU to maintain its 2035 target for CO2-free cars, and to adopt industrial and demand-side policies to make local manufacturing attractive and accelerate the uptake of electric vehicles. These measures would help to boost production levels by increasing the manufacture and demand for electric vehicles to 15.2 million units by 2030 and 16.8 million by 2035, while maintaining current employment levels over the next decade.
