08/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 8 July, the European Commission announced that it had registered the European citizens’ initiative (ECI) entitled ‘Food is a Human Right for All!’. The organisers are calling on the EU to guarantee the right to food and promote healthy, just and sustainable food systems. They are calling for a regulation on sustainable and fair food systems, based on the right to food, and for the creation of a ‘European Food Council’ and a directive to support security social for food initiatives. After a legal analysis, the Commission deemed the initiative admissible. This registration does not prejudge any action the Commission may take.
