08/07/25 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 7 July, the European Union strongly condemned the attack carried out the previous day by the Houthis against the bulk carrier MV Magic Seas in the Red Sea. “This attack has endangered the lives of the crew, who have had to be evacuated, and has put the region at risk of a major ecological disaster, with the ship currently adrift and in danger of sinking”, stressed the spokesperson for the European External Action Service in a statement. This attack, the first of its kind against a commercial vessel in 2025, “constitutes a serious escalation that jeopardises maritime security on a vital waterway for the region and the world”, he added. According to the spokesperson, these attacks, which directly threaten regional peace and stability, world trade and freedom of navigation as a global public good, must stop. (CG)
