23/06/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 23 June, the EU Council adopted without debate the proposal (see EUROPE 13636/30) to provide additional aid and flexibility for Mayotte and the outermost regions affected by natural disasters. The updated rules will allow national authorities to make exceptional adjustments to their Programme of Options Specifically Relating to Remoteness and Insularity (POSEI), which provides support for the EU’s outermost regions. As a result of these changes, farmers in affected areas can continue to receive POSEI aid, even if their farming activities are temporarily disrupted or halted. To qualify for aid, farmers must commit to restoring their agricultural production capacity. This will help ensure the continuity of agricultural production and partly resolve cash flow issues (see EUROPE 13643/16). (LC)
