On Monday 23 June, the European Commission opened a call for evidence with a view to publishing ‘guidelines’ to help protect media providers against the unjustified removal of their content from very large online platforms.
These guidelines should help these platforms, as designated by the Digital Services Act, to implement the specific safeguards against the unjustified removal of news content provided for in the European ‘Media Freedom Act’.
This regulation requires the very large online platforms and social networks concerned to inform media providers when they plan to remove their content and to explain and detail the reasons for this removal. Media providers then have 24 hours to respond to this notification.
The call for evidence is open until 23 July.
