European Commission publishes two concept papers as part of SHARE 2.0 initiative to support digitalisation and entrepreneurship

On Monday 16 June, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC) published two reports on the SHARE 2.0 initiative (https://aeur.eu/f/hii ).

The latter, which follows on from the SHARE initiative carried out from 2018 to 2023, has been implemented to strengthen collaboration between more than 400 sports stakeholders, such as public authorities, clubs, federations and experts, around four thematic working groups called “communities of practice”.

One of these is dedicated to innovation, and both documents have been drawn up with this in mind.

The aim is to promote a participatory method and make concrete recommendations for modernising the European sports sector.

The concept papers propose ‘roadmaps’ for increasing the competitiveness of sport in Europe through digital transformation and entrepreneurship.

The first report, ‘Digitalisation as a source of competitiveness in the sport sector,’ calls for the digital skills of amateur sports clubs to be strengthened through specific training, practical guides and cooperation with professional organisations.

In addition, regional or national funds appear to be necessary for this transition.

The second, ‘Creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem for sport sector start- and scale-ups’, aims to create a favourable environment for sports start-ups.

It demonstrates the value of training athletes in entrepreneurship, connecting local businesses with clubs and facilitating access to finance by simplifying procedures and organising events dedicated to the sports sector.
