EU chemicals sector could benefit from advantages like Critical Raw Materials Act, suggests Stéphane Séjourné

23/06/2025 (Agence Europe)At a hearing before MEPs of the European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade (INTA), Stéphane Séjourné, Executive Vice-President for Industry, said that the European Commission was considering supporting the production of chemical molecules in the EU along the lines of the Critical Raw Materials Act. “The Commission does not rule out making a legislative proposal in the coming months or years, at the end of the strategic dialogue, to propose the equivalent of the Critical Raw Materials Act for chemical molecules”, he said. He added that such an initiative would make it possible to “secure certain elements of our production on which part of our industry is dependent”. According to the list of items on the agenda of the College of Commissioners, the Action Plan for the chemicals industry and an ‘omnibus’ simplification text are scheduled for 2 July. (LM)
