European Commission plans to present a proposal for new own resources, said Piotr Serafin

The European Commission will propose a “renewed and balanced package” of new own resources, which will have “a better chance of being finally adopted”, announced the European Commissioner for the Budget, Piotr Serafin, during a debate in Parliament on the EU’s next long-term budget on Tuesday 6 May (see EUROPE 13635/1).

The “many priorities” that need to be financed by the EU budget will not be funded “without progress in the debate on new own resources”. The European Commissioner regretted that the discussion, which was “not satisfactory from the Commission’s point of view”, was at a standstill in the Council (see EUROPE 13631/6). The Commission is continuing “to seek new own resources”.

The review is underway and the proposals could be integrated directly into the proposal for the post-2027 MFF, rather than being negotiated separately. (Original version in French by Florent Servia)
