EU is following growing tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad “with great concern

At the informal meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Warsaw on Thursday 8 May, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, referred to the recent heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, explaining that she had sent a “message of de-escalation” to both sides.

They must show restraint. There is also a risk of miscalculation. We hope to be able to reduce the tension”, she declared, the day after reciprocal strikes raised fears of a flare-up in the conflict.

In a more detailed statement, the European External Action Service (EEAS) said that the EU was “following closely and with great concern the growing tensions (...) and the ensuing consequences, including the possible loss of further lives”.

The EU and its 27 Member States have condemned the terrorist attack perpetrated on 22 April in Pahalgam (Jammu and Kashmir) and the murder of innocent civilians, stating that those responsible must be brought to justice for this act of terrorism.
