13/05/25 (Agence Europe) – The finance ministers of the euro area countries feel an increasing “sense of urgency” about the digital euro project, noted the President of the Eurogroup, Paschal Donohoe, on the evening of Monday 12 May. “We agreed to speed up work and aim to find compromises on the remaining issues”, he added. Among the points to be clarified are the confidentiality arrangements for users and a possible ceiling on digital euro holdings so as not to compete with bank accounts. At a time when the international environment for the payments sector is changing very rapidly (see EUROPE 13597/16), the ECB is calling for a reform of the ‘MiCA’ regulatory framework governing crypto-asset markets in the European Union. On Tuesday 13 May, the Polish Finance Minister, Andrzej Domański, indicated that the Polish Presidency of the EU Council was “ready” to work on any proposals submitted. (MB)
