On Tuesday 13 May, the European Union and Japan signed a joint letter of intent to strengthen cooperation in the field of quantum technology.
Published following the third Digital Partnership Council, held on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 May, the letter affirms the desire of both parties to strengthen cooperation between their respective scientists and researchers, particularly in the field of quantum science and technology.
Present in Tokyo for the Council, the European Commissioner for Technological Sovereignty, Henna Virkkunen, together with the Japanese Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy, Minoru Kiuchi, announced new joint objectives in areas such as artificial intelligence, 5G/6G, semiconductors, high-performance computing and quantum technology.
The EU also wants to strengthen cooperation on data governance, connectivity, digital identities and cyber security.
The fourth Digital Partnership Council will take place next year in Brussels.
