On Tuesday 13 May, members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) adopted the compromise amendments and own-initiative report on electricity networks by 52 votes to 9 with 2 abstentions (see EUROPE 13608/11).
“We need to invest €584 billion in grids by 2030 [...] European funding mechanisms such as CEF-E (‘Connecting Europe Facility for Energy’) are important instruments for helping to finance cross-border electricity infrastructure”, explained the rapporteur, Anna Stürgkh (Renew Europe, Austrian).
She stressed that the ITRE Committee had today sent “a clear and strong signal” to the European Commission to “maintain a strong CEF-E” within the new multiannual financial framework (MFF).
The plenary vote will take place at the June session.
