At their Council meeting on Tuesday 13 May, the European ministers and representatives responsible for culture adopted conclusions to encourage young artists and cultural and creative professionals who are just starting out. This includes young people aged 18 to 30, as well as emerging professionals.
Given the difficult working conditions of the artistic professions, the text calls on the Member States and the Commission to support them in the face of the multiple forms of discrimination that can hamper the exercise of their profession, and to take account of their mental health.
Protecting their copyright and intellectual property rights is also one of the objectives, as is improving their social rights. We also need to guide young artists in a field that is changing as a result of the development of artificial intelligence.
With regard to funding, the text calls for incentives for private sponsorship, with the aim of improving pay and working conditions.
In addition, the aim is to promote existing European programmes such as Creative Europe, Erasmus+ and Culture Moves Europe to encourage the exchange of best practice, develop networks and encourage mobility.
