The first strategic dialogue with the chemical industry took place on Monday 12 May, in the presence of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, its Vice-President, Stéphane Séjourné, and the Commissioner for the Environment, Jessika Roswall. On the industrial side, some fifteen companies were present, as well as the trade unions CES-ETUC and Industri'All, and civil society representatives BEUC (European Consumer Organisation) and EEB (European Environmental Bureau).
Participants called for the rapid implementation of initiatives recently published by the Commission, such as the ‘Clean Industrial Deal’.
The President of the Commission announced that an action plan for the chemical industry and an ‘omnibus’ simplification initiative would be presented “by the summer”. She also announced the publication of a package for the chemical industry by the end of the year, an initiative that was already included in the ‘Clean Industrial Deal’ communication (see EUROPE 13588/1).
