Regulation on return of irregular migrants in EU – names of various European Parliament rapporteurs starting to emerge

29/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – The names of the rapporteurs on the ‘Returns’ regulation proposed by the Commission on 11 March (see EUROPE 13597/17) are starting to emerge. While Malik Azmani (Renew Europe, Dutch) has been appointed lead rapporteur, most groups within Parliament have also appointed their ‘shadow’ rapporteurs. For the S&D Group, it is Murielle Laurent (French). Marieke Ehlers (Dutch) has been nominated for the PfE group and Charlie Weimers (Swedish) for the ECR group. Mélissa Camara (French) has been nominated for the Greens/EFA group and Estrella Galán (Spanish) for The Left. The name of the EPP Group’s shadow rapporteur was not yet known, but the names of Lena Düpont (German) and Tomas Tobé (Swedish) had been put forward a few weeks ago by Group sources. (SP)
