29/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 29 April, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Council, António Costa, congratulated Liberal Mark Carney on his victory in the Canadian parliamentary elections. “The bond between Europe and Canada is strong – and growing stronger. (...) We’ll defend our shared democratic values, promote multilateralism, and champion free and fair trade”, stressed Ms von der Leyen on X. Mr Costa highlighted that the European Union and Canada enjoy a close and long-standing partnership. “We are allies and strong trade partners. We share the same values, and attachment to the United Nations Charter and the rules-based international order”, he explained. The two presidents promised to continue working closely with Canada, particularly within the G7. (CG)
