29/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – The Logone bridge, linking Yagoua in Cameroon’s Far North region to Bongor in Chad, was inaugurated on Monday 28 April. Started in 2020, its construction was financially supported by the EU and five of its Member States to the tune of €40 million (out of a total of €113 million) as part of the ‘Global Gateway’ investment package. The EU’s flagship project in Africa, this new 620-metre long cross-border bridge should strengthen the regional economy by improving transport logistics in the Lake Chad basin, in particular by strengthening connections with Nigeria. In addition to financial support, the European contribution included the expertise of a French civil engineering company, technical studies and project management support. The inauguration of the bridge coincides with the 50th anniversary of EU-Cameroon cooperation. (BD)
