Marta Kos stresses need for government to respond to European aspirations of Serbian citizens during visit to Belgrade

The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos is making a two-day visit to Serbia on Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 April, at a time when the country has been in the grip of widespread opposition to the current government (see EUROPE B13616A3) since the accident in Novi Sad last November.

A candidate for EU membership, Serbia’s progress has been slowed by internal tensions and the pro-Russian leanings of its president, Aleksandar Vučić (see EUROPE B13531A4).
