29/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – A group of seven associations representing medical technology manufacturers have requested a meeting with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in a letter sent to her on Monday 28 April. This sector fears US tariffs, even though the United States is the leading destination for European medical technology exports. Representatives of the sector, including MedTech Europe, would like the President of the Commission to defend zero tariffs for medical technologies and the essential components needed to produce them in negotiations with Washington. According to the signatories, the increase in US customs duties could lead to company closures, the ceding of innovation to foreign competitors and reduced availability of medical solutions for patients.
