On Wednesday 9 April, the European Commission proposed to the EU Council the signature and provisional application of the EU-Switzerland agreement authorising Swiss participation in EU programmes, according to a press release.
“The signing and provisional application will enable EU and Swiss entities to work together on a wide range of EU programmes, including research, innovation and education. This will create new opportunities for Swiss researchers and entities to access EU funding and work alongside European partners. It will also enable Europe’s research and innovation communities to benefit from a wider pool of talent and scientific excellence. Swiss participants will have the same rights as EU entities, including the possibility of receiving direct EU funding and leading research consortia”.
In the coming months, the Commission will present proposals for the signature of the remainder of the package and for the conclusion of the entire package negotiated at the end of 2024 (see EUROPE 13550/11). If Switzerland fails to ratify by 2028, provisional participation will end.
