09/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 9 April, the ambassadors of the Member States to the European Union (Coreper) adopted the position of the Council of the EU on the granting of EU macro-financial assistance totalling €4 billion to Egypt. This position will be formalised at the EU ‘Foreign Affairs’ Council on Monday 14 April. It will enable the Polish Presidency of the EU Council to conduct negotiations with the European Parliament, which adopted its negotiating position at the beginning of April (see EUROPE 13612/7). This macro-financial assistance, which will be disbursed in three tranches in the form of loans on preferential terms, is part of an overall aid package of €5 billion agreed in spring 2024 in Cairo, of which €1 billion had already been disbursed by the end of 2024 (see EUROPE 13373/6).
