09/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – In the document published by the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU on Tuesday 8 April, which is intended to give a mandate to start negotiations with the European Parliament on extending the regulation on gas storage beyond 2025 (see EUROPE 13595/11), the Presidency finally states that a 10% flexibility can be allowed in the annual filling target of 90% “when market conditions are unfavourable for filling the underground gas storages”. The Presidency had initially proposed a 5% deviation (see EUROPE 13614/23, 13606/9). An additional 5% flexibility can be added in the case of an exceptionally long injection period or when national gas production exceeds average annual consumption over the previous two years. The Member States’ ambassadors to the EU are expected to approve the compromise proposal at their Coreper meeting on Friday 11 April. To view the document: https://aeur.eu/f/gd2 (PLD)
