Jessika Roswall plans to reduce delegated and implementing acts relating to environmental legislation by one third

The European Commission’s Environment DG intends to reduce “the number of new delegated and implementing acts by a third”, declared the European Commissioner for the Environment, Jessika Roswall, during an exchange with MEPs on the European Parliament’s Environment Committee on Tuesday 8 April.

Ms Roswall justified this decision in terms of the simplification imperatives that are now guiding the European Commission. The Commission “has set clear objectives for reducing the administrative burden, and each theme should contribute in all areas”, she explained.

Around “300 delegated and implementing acts” have been reviewed by DG Environment, according to Ms Roswall. She specified that priority had been given to “acts and instruments that in themselves make it possible to reduce the administrative burden”.

Pascal Canfin (Renew Europe, French) was keen to point out that “these acts do not exist by chance”, but in order “to be able to implement decisions adopted to change behaviour and existing regulations”.

Pointing out that “the agreed timetable must be respected”, the MEP asked the Commissioner how she intended to “reduce [these acts] and still achieve the objectives”. (Original version in French by Florent Servia)
